
On October 7, 2025, Holy Name University (HNU) and the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Region VII marked a milestone by signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to establish the Center for Human Rights Education at HNU. This groundbreaking partnership is set to deepen understanding, ignite passionate advocacy, and inspire meaningful action to protect human dignity throughout the region.
HNU proudly hosted distinguished guests from CHR Central Visayas, led by Regional Director Atty. Arvin A. Odron, alongside Mr. Jose Augustus G. Villano, Chief of the Promotions and Advocacy Division, and their dedicated team, whose presence energized the celebration.
Representing the University were Br. Mark N. Paglicawan, SVD, Vice President for Administration, and Dr. Amie Rosarie C. Caballo, Vice President for Academic Affairs. They stood alongside department heads, faculty, staff, and students, embracing a shared vision for transformative change.
A special highlight of the ceremony was the presence of Retired Judge Marivic T. Daray, Dean of the College of Law (HNU), and Dean Atty. Ria Lidia Espina of the University of Cebu School of Law, who delivered a heartfelt solidarity message in support of the shared vision of integrating human rights education in higher learning institutions.
This partnership reaffirms Holy Name University’s commitment to fostering a culture of respect, equality, and social justice—empowering future generations to become advocates of human rights and transformative social change.
