Fr. Bancale's Visit to His "Green Apples" in America
HNU VP for Academic Affairs, Fr. Romeo P. Bancale, SVD, in a mini-reunion of DWC-T/HNU Alumni at the residence of Hil and Resie Soliva, New Jersey, U.S.A.
The poignant lines of the Holy Name College March rang out loud and clear after the mass officiated by Fr. Romy Bancale, SVD and Fr. Dodong Po in the plush residence of the Solivas (Hil and Resie Visarra) in lake Hopatcong, New Jersey. The nostalgic and well articulated singing of the school hymn, in a sense, sent shivers down the spine of the alumni who attended the mini-reunion of DWC-T/HNU alumni based in the New Jersey - New York area. Fr. Romy's visit in New York City was somehow the motivating force for that gathering which was materialized at a short time's notice. His presence was a reason good enough for his former students (whom he lovingly called "green apples" during their student days) together and meet with him on July 21, 2007.
Before the mass, there was the usual exchange of pleasantries - the whereabouts and what-have-yous as well as fond reminiscences of the glory days of DWC-T in the late 60s and mid-70s. It can be recalled that during these decades, Fr. Romy served three positions: As High School Director, Guidance Counselor, and Faculty. He has been highly regarded and well loved by his students and faculty for what-and-who he was (and still is) to them. Those who attended were: Rodrigo Peñalosa, Julito Magallanes, and Expedita Bustrillos-Uy of class '69; Amy Gadugdug-Cañete, Teresa Visarra-Soliva, Bernardo Digal, Jr. and Romualdo Bustrillos of class '71; Francis Dompor, Elizabeth Veloso-Garcia, and Fr. Fernando "Dodong" Po of class '83. A faculty member of the 60s and 70s, Mrs. Dolly Calope, also attended the gathering. Later in the afternoon, Justy and Inday (Sarabosing) Parras joined the group. A feast of exquisite Filipino cuisine capped that memorable mini-reunion.
