  1. What is the new "My HNU Prepaid SIM"?

    "My HNU Prepaid SIM" is a specially designed SIM card powered by the nation's leading digital telecommunications network, Globe Telecom. It is created specifically for the students and community of Holy Name University.

  2. How does it work?

    The HNU Prepaid SIM works like a regular Globe SIM card; hence, one can still avail of Globe's latest promos such as unlimited text, and yes, an HNU SIM subscriber can still contact (call or text) subscribers from other networks. In addition, MyHNU SIM has features and services not found in a regular SIM card, as follows:

    • It has a unique Mobile School Assistant, a program that will enable currently enrolled HNU students to access information like grades and tuition fee dues. The service will help students and parents keep track of up-to-date information related to the school.
    • Students no longer have to fall in a terribly long line every periodic exam to pay for their tuition fee. The HNU SIM enables students or parents to pay tuition fees electronically via text, wherever they are.*
    • Students can receive allowances conveniently from parents.*
    • Students can now easily buy load from the HNU Finance Office.*
    • Plus, the HNU Prepaid SIM has special tariff rates that are lower compared to the rates of a regular SIM card.

  3. How much is the tariff rate?
    HNU SIM to HNU SIM:
    • Only 75 cents per message
    • Automatic 10 cents per second call (no need to add prefix number of 232+ or 235+)
    • P2.50 per info text (inquiry on grade or tuition fee due)

    HNU SIM to Non-HNU SIM:
    • P6.50 per minute call
    • P1 per message

  4. How much is an HNU Prepaid SIM card?

    The HNU Prepaid SIM costs only P50, much lower than the regular SIM card sold at retail stores.

  5. Where can I buy this?

    The HNU Prepaid SIM cards are exclusively sold at designated booths at our Main Campus and Janssen Campus from August 28 to September 7, 2007. Beyond these dates, the SIM cards may be purchased at the HNU Finance Office. By this time, purchases are to be paid in cash. (Please present your student ID upon purchase.)

  6. Can I buy more than one HNU SIM card?

    Yes, a student is entitled to buy more than one SIM card. Parents, alumni, faculty and employees of HNU are likewise welcome to avail of the HNU SIM cards.

  7. Can I charge the cost of purchase to my assessment?

    Yes, a bona fide student of HNU has the option to charge a maximum of two HNU SIM cards to his/her school assessment. Charges will be reflected in the Finals Assessment. (Purchases beyond two items shall be paid in cash.)

    HNU Faculty and employees may also opt to charge their HNU SIM purchases through salary deduction. Please fill up the coupon at designated booths in the campus.

  8. How do I register to the service?

    Upon purchase of the SIM card, a staff from Globe Telecom will assist the subscriber to activate his HNU SIM. A step-by-step guide is also enclosed in the SIM pack. Flyers are likewise being distributed at lobbies for further information.

  9. Is buying the HNU SIM compulsory to all students of HNU?

    No. It is an option of the student to avail of the Mobile School Assistant that comes with the HNU SIM card.

    The student decides whether he wishes to remain using his conventional old SIM or avail of the new HNU SIM and thereby conveniently access information from the system anytime, any day, as well as enjoy the special features that come with it.

  10. If I avail of the HNU SIM, am I going to be charged another fee on top of the existing SMS Fee of P99/sem?

    No. The P99/sem SMS Fee is for the SMS facility which is made available to the students through its text advisory service. The HNU SIM, on the other hand, is an option given to the student for additional services; hence, he will NOT be charged of any fees for this.

  11. What is the difference between the existing SMS service and the new HNU Prepaid SIM?

    With the existing SMS facility, the student automatically receives timely information from the school through text advisories, free of charge. However, he has no option to retrieve data from the school's database.

    With the new HNU Prepaid SIM, the student can receive information, at the same time he can also inquire from the system. For instance, if a student fails to receive his grade at the time the information was sent to him due to being out of network coverage, he may inquire again from the system anytime to verify the information that he failed to receive.

  12. What if I already own a SIM card, what happens to it?

    The student has two options:

    1. He may retain his existing SIM card and use the HNU SIM only when he has the need to access information from the system; or
    2. He may opt to use the HNU SIM as his new and permanent mobile number and thereby enjoy an all-time discounted rate, at the same time be able to conveniently avail of its special services and features.

    (Note: With Option No. 2, students are advised to update their Student Profile at http://student.hnu.edu.ph/ with their new HNU SIM mobile number in order to keep attuned to the school's SMS service and continue receiving free text advisories from the school.)

    How to update your Student Profile with your new HNU SIM mobile number:
    Step 1: Log-on to http://student.hnu.edu.ph/
    Step 2: Select "Tools"
    Step 3: Replace your Primary Number with your new MY HNU SIM mobile number. Text advisories (i.e., grades, announcements, etc.) will be sent to this number. (You may still opt to retain your old primary number by assigning it as your secondary mobile number.)
    Step 4: Click "Save"
    Step 5: Click "Logout". You're done!

  13. Suppose I am already a Globe subscriber, can I convert it to HNU SIM and retain my number?

    No. The Mobile School Assistant and the other features mentioned are programmed only in the HNU SIM card. If one wishes to avail of these services, one has to purchase an HNU SIM.

    Yes. Registration is necessary so that your new HNU SIM mobile number can be recognized by the system.

  16. Can I still avail of the previous SMS while being registered to the new HNU SIM service?

    Definitely. That is why upon availment of the new HNU SIM you are advised to update your Student Profile with the school's online system in order to remain registered to the school's SMS service.

  17. Can a non-HNU student buy the HNU Prepaid SIM?

    The HNU SIM cards are available to bona fide students of HNU, parents, HNU faculty and employees, and the alumni.

  18. What happens if I lose my HNU Prepaid SIM?

    You can always replace your lost HNU SIM card with a new one. Simply go to the nearest designated booth in the campus within the selling period. Beyond the selling dates, you can buy your new HNU SIM at the HNU Finance Office.

    Please do not forget to update your Student Profile at the online system every time you have a new mobile number. (Important reminder: Lost HNU SIM cards with G-Cash load must be reported immediately to Globe Telecom for proper action.)

  19. What if I don't want to avail of the service?

    Not availing of the HNU SIM is a prerogative of the student. However, by choosing not to acquire the SIM card, the student loses the opportunity to make use of the extended service that the school is offering to students for their convenience.

  20. Can I still use my HNU SIM after I graduate?

    Yes. Students who availed of the HNU SIM card and have graduated will continue to enjoy the special discounted call and text rates and the G-Cash facility. However, for security reasons, he will no longer have access to the system or receive text advisories from the school. This is because only currently enrolled students are recognized by the system. The same policy applies to dropouts or transferees.

  21. What services are available to parents, alumni, faculty and employees of HNU?

    The following services are being offered:

    • Special discounted call and text rates. Only 75 cents per message, and automatic 10-cents-per-second call.
    • "Wallet Na Ang Phone Mo." Use your phone like a debit card to purchase goods and services, send money remittance, or pay bills via texting. See flyers for more details.
        As a mobile wallet, this also enables:
      • parents to pay tuition fees of their college children via text. No more falling in long endless lines at the HNU Teller!
      • parents to send allowance to their children via text. Once the student/recipient receives the textcash, he can convert the textcash to cash at the HNU Finance Teller or at the nearest G-Cash outlet. Parents no longer have to go to the bank or remittance centers to send allowance to their children!

      To be able to do the above transactions, the subscriber must be registered to G-Cash and the HNU SIM card must have a G-Cash load to convert your phone into a Mobile Wallet. You may convert your cash to G-Cash load at the HNU Finance Teller or at any G-Cash affiliated business center nearest you.

    • Pay tuition fee at any G-Cash affiliated business center. If the subscriber is not yet registered to G-Cash or has no G-Cash load, he may pay his tuition fee at the nearest G-Cash affiliated business center and avoid falling in a long line at the HNU Teller. Here's how:

      1. At the G-Cash outlet, inform cashier that you are paying your HNU tuition fee. Pay the cashier of the tuition fee amount plus service charge.
      2. Tell cashier to send payment to any of HNU's G-Cash Mobile Numbers as follows: 2882-917-8700-771, 2882-917-8700-772, 2882-917-8700-773, or 2882-917-8700-774. Get the Reference Number from the cashier for the payment just made.
      3. Show your Reference Number to the HNU Finance Office and secure your Official Receipt / exam permit.

  22. How do I register to G-Cash and convert my cash to G-Cash load in my mobile phone?
    1. To register, type REG 4-digit PIN/mother's maiden name/your firstname/your lastname/addressSend to 2882. You will receive a confirmation text from G-Cash.
    2. To convert your cash to G-Cash load, simply go to the HNU Finance Teller or the nearest G-Cash affiliated business center.

  23. How fast and secure are the transactions made via text?

    Transactions made via G-Cash thru text are guaranteed secure because these are protected with individual mobile PIN numbers. All transactions are also recorded in an electronic ledger in Globe Telecom. G-Cash conforms to the Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA) because it requires all users to register their personal details thru text.

    G-Cash transactions work in real time, which means the transaction is done at the speed of text messaging. Therefore, if a parent sends an allowance to her child via text, the child immediately receives the textcash and can thereby convert the textcash at the HNU Finance Teller or at the nearest G-Cash accredited business center right then and there.
