The COED Academic Chair, Dr. Roque A. Bongcac, attended the 36th annual convention of the Philippine Association for Teacher Education (PAFTE) on October 23-25, 2007 at the Grand Regal Hotel in Lanang, Davao City. The convention hinged on the theme: "Implementing the New Teacher Education Curriculum: an Experiental, Integrated, Collaborative, and Continuing Process." Its primary objective is to enable the participants to learn from the best practices of other institutions for the success of the implementation of the new teacher education curriculum. The sequel of the convention was the 4th International Study Tour in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia on October 26-31. The COED Chair did not join the study tour for practical reasons.
Dr. Ian D'Arcy Walsh, Australian Project Director, was one of the keynote speakers, who underscored that teacher education should be an experiential and collaborative process. Other topics tackled were "Competency-Based Teacher Education Curriculum" by Dr. Amor Q. de Torres, Chair of the CHED Technical Panel, and "Matching the Teacher Education Curriculum and the Basic Education Curriculum" of Dr. Grace Estela C. Mateo, Teacher Education Council (TEC) Subject Specialist.
The convention also produced a resolution in support to the plan of the Philippine Regulation Commission to conduct two sets of Licensure Examination for Teachers in the months of April and November.
