The school year 2007-2008 is a lucky year for the College of Education of Holy Name University. Aside from its new topnotcher and high passing rate in the Licensure Examination for Teachers, the college is the only teacher education institution in Bohol to be included in the six schools in the region named as Center of Training for Teachers by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The other schools given the same recognition are Silliman University of Negros Oriental and the four Cebu City schools - University of San Carlos, University of San Jose Recoletos, Cebu Normal University, and St. Theresa's College.
The memorandum certifying the HNU-COED as Center of Training for Teachers was issued on September 10, 2007 by Dr. Beatriz G. Torno, CHED Executive Director II through Dr. Vilma L. Labrador, DepEd Undersecretary for Programs and Projects. The recognition which placed HNU at par with the other leading schools in the country, makes the COED a service provider for DepEd certification and other service programs. The college is also tasked to design in-service training programs for neophyte teachers. The training will focus on Reading, Science, Mathematics, and English.
