A Rummage sale was conducted by the ReEd Department last September 23, 2007 at the Quasi-Parish of St. Isidore the Farmer, Busao, Maribojoc, Bohol. Belonging to the Diocese of Tagbilaran, the area was chosen since the quasi-parish is assigned to SVD Tagbilaran with Fr. Florante S. Camacho, SVD as parish priest. Thus, entry into the community was facilitated and information dissemination was made during Sundays in the church where people gathered together for the Eucharistic Celebration. Coordination with the local church workers was done to help in putting up the physical arrangement and choice of location where actual sales took place.
Solicited from student in ReEd classes, items which were sold included groceries, used clothing, blankets, curtains, shoes, and bags. Teachers from the ReEd Department engaged themselves in actual transport, display, and selling of goods together with some volunteer students. The Sale opened right after the mass at 9:30 in the morning. After the parishioners proceeded to the church plaza whre all were able to get a good number of items out of spending only a few amounts form their pockets. Within a duration of three hours, the gross sales amounted to Php 16,671.25, with a total expenditure of Php 6, 794.25. Net proceeds remained at Php 9,000.00 and was sent to the SVD Mission Office in Cebu through HNU Campus Ministry Office.
Fr. Eufemio Sombrio, SVD, Chairman of the Reed Department facilitated the planning and implementation of the whole activity. It was an oppurtunity for the students to do mission to the marginalized people. Part of the amount raised is intended to finance church-related project in the quasi-parish. It is significant to note the Rummage sale did not only provide economic benefits to the parishioners but also allowed them to pariticipate in the improvement of their quasi-parish from their own funds, namely, a purchase of theree ceiling fans for the newly-opened Parish Pastoral Center.
