The Director of Libraries, Mrs. Corazon B. Garcia, retired from Holy Name University effective June 16, 2007. Mrs. Garcia has served HNU for 35 years. She had also served the University of San Carlos for four years before she was employed in Divine World College of Tagbilaran now Holy Name University. She had worked as library staff under the supervision of two predecessors, Mrs. Prudenciana Comiling who later transferred to the National Library and Mrs. Corazon Dompor, who resigned and migrated to the United States. Mrs. Garcia assumed office as Chief Librarian in 1989. Though the designation changed later to the Director of Libraries, the functions and responsibilities didn't change.
Mrs Garcia's formal retirement party started with a thanksgiving mass held on her 60th natal day on June 13, 2007 at the HNU Main Chapel. The library staff, some administrators, close friends and some members of the family attended this solemn mass. Fr. Romeo P. Bancale, SVD, the Vice President for the Academic Affairs was the main celebrant while Fr. Brigido Angngasing, SVD, Fr Teodoro Gapuz, SVD and Fr. Andres Guban, SVD were the co-celebrants. Fr. Gapuz and Fr. Angngasing personally came just to attend the retirement and testimonial dinner of their close friend, Maam Azon.
The theme of Maam Azon's birthday and despidida party was "Charging Out a Bestseller." The party program started with a testimonial dinner at 7:00 in the evening at the Metro Center Hotel Ruby Hall with the SVD priests including special guests (Fr. Angngasing and Fr. Gapuz), HNU Administrators, library staff, friends and barkadas, and family members.
Mr. Marianito Luspo acted as the master of ceremony of the program. The library staff assuming and treating the queen of the night, Mrs. Corazon B. Garcia as a book, intentionally designed the program. Fr. Romeo P. Bancale, SVD gave the introduction comparing Mrs. Garcia to a highly valued book. The National Library Director, Mrs. Prudeciana C. Cruz, gave background information about the work experiences she had with Mrs. Garcia. The song presentation of the library staff was like a frontispiece of the celebrant. Fr. Briggs Angngasing's testimony acknowledged Mrs. Garcia's valuable service to HNU. The program also highlighted the giving of the retirement ring and plaque of appreciation to the honoree. Fr. Ernesto M. Lagura, the University President, read the contents of the plaque before handing it to Mrs. Garcia, in recognition of her thirty five years of valuable service to Holy Name University. The celebrant did a postscript by thanking and appreciating all those who in one way or another made a part of her life in HNU. Likewise, she thanked all those who attended the testimonial dinner.
