CE GRANTED PAASCU LEVEL I ACCREDITATION

The Department of Civil Engineering of Holy Name University has recently earned an initial accreditation for a period of three years from the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU). This was released by the PAASCU Board of Directors last May 2007.

The Civil Engineering Program underwent a two-day formal survey visit on January 22 and 23 this year with Dr. Hermina Torres from De la Salle University in Manila as Chairperson together with Dr. Teresita Reyes, Dean of the School of Engineering and Architecture of St. Mary's University in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, and Engr. Walden Rio, Dean Emeritus of the College of Engineering of the Central Philippine University in Iloilo City, for the areas of Faculty/Laboratories and Instruction respectively.

The CE Department first underwent a preliminary survey on March 1-2, 2004 and was granted Level 1 accreditation for a two-year period. The survey team was composed of Dr. Ricardo Pama, President of the Baguio Colleges Foundation and Engr. Paul Manuel Abrina, Chairman of the Engineering Division of Ateneo de Davao University.

Meanwhile, one year after the preliminary survey, it was highly recommended that the Civil Engineering Program undergo a consultancy visit. This was on October 10, 2005 with the consultant Dr. Evangelista, Dean of the College of Engineering of the University of San Jose Recoletos, and was eventually allowed to undergo a formal survey one year after by the PAASCU Board of Directors.
