In time for the grand culminating activities of the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the institution, a pioneering project in the province also kicked-off at Holy Name University. Amidst the festive atmosphere, the Water Assessment, Testing, Education and Research Support Services or WATERSS Project was launched last February 12, 2008 at 5 o'clock in the afternoon at the 4th floor of the HNU Main Campus. Simultaneously done with the launching was the inauguration of the HNU-WATERSS Water Laboratory. This laboratory is being established by Holy Name University with the assistance of the Philippine-Australia Community Assistance Program (PACAP) of AusAID. When completed this is purported to be the most comprehensive water testing laboratory in the province of Bohol.
Gracing the activity was Gov. Erico B. Aumentado together with numerous officials and dignitaries from the provincial government. The governor is a known strong supporter of the project since its inception. Also among the guest of honors, were Fr. Ernesto M. Lagura, SVD, President of Holy Name University and Ms. Lourdes Marina P. Padilla, Program Coordinator of PACAP.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony started the event which was done by the governor, the HNU president and the PACAP representative. A blessing and formal inauguration celebrated by Fr. Ernesto M. Lagura, SVD followed.
In his short speech, Fr. Lagura commended the efforts of those who were part of the implementing team of WATERSS Project. He also thanked the provincial government and the NGO sector for their support in bringing this project to fruition. Citing this as a prime example of cooperation between the private sector and the government, Fr. Lagura reiterated his elation that the institution is part of such undertaking that will certainly help Boholanos.
The Governor on his part, during his keynote speech, underscored that for many years HNU has always been a partner of the provincial government in efforts to bring about progress to Boholanos. He said that this continued partnership has indeed helped the provincial administration, for example, in determining the most suitable projects to implement in Bohol. He also cited HNU as a center of excellence in development efforts here in the province.
Also in attendance during the launching were administrators, deans, faculty and staff of this university, as well as representatives from the different sectors including those from non-government organizations, the political & business sectors, and civic organizations. Food and cocktail was served right after the ceremonies.
