Two HNU librarians attended the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI) congress at the Buttenbruch Hall of the University of San Carlos in Cebu City last February 22 and 23. Mrs. Cecilia Samson, the HNU Director of Libraries, together with Ms. Grace Orbeta, the Periodicals Librarian attended the said congress which hinged on the theme “Librarians and Information Professionals: Coping with Challenges”. Director Samson then made a reaction speech to the talk made by the CHED Chairman of Region 7, Dr. Enrique Grecia, which was all about “IQUAME: Librarian's Role in its Preparation.”
Ms. Teofila Eter and Ms. Melagros Kudemus successfully defended their respective thesis last March 8, 2008 for a degree of Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS). Ms. Eter’s work was titled “Teachers’ Computer Literacy and Utilization of Internet Resources in the Holy Name University” while Ms. Kudemus’ was about “The Utilization of Library and Multi-media Resources in the Basic Education of the Holy Name University”. Ms Kudemus is presently assigned as the librarian in the Elementary Department while Ms. Eter is the librarian for the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Education.
The need to have a committee to actively participate in the formulation of library policies and work towards the continued development and improvement of library resources and services has led to the creation of the HNU PAASCU Library Committee. This 14-member committee was originally composed of students and faculty members of the different colleges, the High School and the Elementary departments. The committee is chaired Mr. Ernesto Golosino with Mrs. Cecilia Samson, the Director of Libraries as the secretary.
The HNU Library staff together with the PAASCU Library Committee attended a planning workshop last February 14 and 25. The workshop was facilitated by Mrs. Maria Paz Espiritu, a research associate of the HNU Research Center. The workshop aimed to formulate a plan for the HNU Library System that is feasible within the next academic year. With the active participation of the PAASCU Library Committee, the staff of the HNU Library System was able to come up with a strategic plan which gives preponderance to the requirements of the PAASCU.
