Holy Name University student leaders and writers attended the 46th National Rizal Youth Leadership Institute (NRYLI) last December 14 to 18, 2008 held at Benitez Hall, Senior Mess, Teacher's Camp, Baguio City.
The conference, which bore the theme: "Children of Rizal's One Hundred Years: Surpass the Past. Fulfill the Future", was sponsored by the Order of the Knights of Rizal in cooperation with KAbataang PAngarap ni RIZal (KAPARIZ), Organizational Change Consultants International, Inc. (OCCI), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Department of Education (DepED) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The conference presented different workshops, grand metalogue, stage play (Rizal for President) and contest which aims to instill into the student participants the tenets of leadership, the discipline of character building and the sense of national purpose that characterized the life of our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal.
Sir Joey Eduard H. Arabejo, Chapter President; Mr. Maxwell B. Cutamora, Finance Secretary / CON-LGU Governor; and Sir John Metodio B. Maraguinot Jr., Chapter Consultant represented the KAPARIZ HNU-Bohol Chapter. The Word, the official student publication, was also represented by Ms. Pearl Angelie C. Tanggaan, Associate Editor; and Mr. Neil Gerard Reyes, Literary Editor. The CSG was also represented by Mr. Ray B. Alagon, Appointed President; Mr. Sedric Israel and Ms. Janice Parilla, Appointed Senators.
Mr. Maraguinot was re-elected once again as the National President of the KAbataang PAngarap ni RIZal (KAPARIZ), the official youth arm of the Order of the Knights of Rizal, Chartered Under Republic Act No. 646. Mr. Arabejo was also appointed by the National President as the Area Coordinator for Central Visayas for the Rizalian Year 2008 - 2010.
Ms. Rina Lopez-Bautista, President and CEO of Knowledge Channel were the keynote speaker of the said conference. Also, some honored guests delivered some speeches like Dr. Villamor Vital, Vice President Asian Social Institute tackled the topic on "What Will Rizal Find in the Philippines and the World Today: A Socio-Political-Economic Overview"; Mr. Philip G. Camara, Chairman, Sectoral Council on Economic Development talked on "Rizal and the Economics of Shared Abundance"; Dr. Amalia Cullarin Rosales, Dean of Graduate School, Polytechnic University of the Philippines lectured on "Rizal and the Citizenship of Conscience"; and Sir Prof. Jose David Lapuz, KGCR shared his foundation of wisdom during the metalogue entitled "Rizal: the Relevance of His Teachings in Addressing Global Economic Crisis".
Over 730 total delegates are there just to witness and join the yearly gathering of youth around the globe regardless of culture differences. Two of the students of HNU are part of the RYLI Executive Committee and acted as the Micro Facilitator for two consecutive years namely Mr. John Metodio Maraguinot Jr. and Joey Eduard Arabejo.
