As part of the continuing education of the faculty members of the College of Computer Science, a series of seminars on JEDI and OOP Using PHP and MySQL was made last March 25-27, 2009 at the CS main laboratory.

The three-day seminar is a series composed of JEDI for one and a half days and Object Oriented Programming using PHP and MySQL for the next one and a half days.

The College of Computer Science instructors used the free course materials that are made available to them as members of the Java Education and Development Initiative (JEDI). The university through its College of Computer Science is the first JEDI member in Bohol.

The JEDI seminar was conducted by Mr. Jay B. Paig, a faculty member of the said college whose programming proficiency includes the Java language. He imparted topics on Java arrays, class libraries, inheritance and polymorphism to mention a few.

Mr. Genes C. Molina, another CS faculty member and System Administrator of the CS main laboratories, handled the second part of the seminar on Object-Oriented Programming Using PHP and MySQL. He currently handles the said subject and specializes on the field. Mr. Molina shared topics on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, programming in PHP and MySQL and printing using FPDF. As part of the training, the instructors were grouped for team programming on related systems such as Enrolment, Payroll and Attendance Monitoring/Room Reservation.

The activity was successfully participated by all the CS faculty members with the dean, Mrs. Amie Rosarie C. Caballo. It is hoped to spread knowledge among the group to prepare them to handle such subjects in the future.
