CAMPUS MINISTRY UPDATES

on LITURGY

Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the 133rd SVD Foundation Day (Sept.8)

A Holy Mass was celebrated at 8:00 in the morning with the theme: Inspired by the Word, Hope to the World. It was celebrated by the whole HNU SVD Community with the HNU family. Fr. Francisco T. Estepa, SVD was the main celebrant while Fr. Ruel S. Gado, SVD gave the homily. Part of the Holy Mass was a floral offering to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The rest of the day was a holiday for the HNU community.

Pilgrimages to Marian Shrines

MARY: FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT, MISSIONED BY THE WORD is theme of this year’s pilgrimage. The scheduled dates were:

  • October 3, High School Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Assumption Shrine, Dauis
    Fr. Val Pinlac, its Parish Priest was the main celebrant and homilist
  • October 4, Grade School Pilgrimage to Our Lady of the Barangay Shrine, Cogon
    Fr. John Legitimas was the main celebrant and homilist
  • October 6, College Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Assumption Shrine, Dauis
    Fr. Jose Cecil Lobrigas, the Diocesan Chancellor was the main celebrant and homilist with the SVD-HNU Community as concelebrants.

Confirmation Rites (October 11)

About 200 HNU students received the Sacrament of Confirmation done by the beloved bishop of the Diocese of Tagbilaran, Bp. Leonardo Y. Medroso, DD. Prior to the event was a Confirmation Seminar to orient the participants on such Sacrament of Initiation. It was given by the CM Staff on September 6 (for Grade School pupils) and on October 4 (High School and College students). The Confirmation was done last October 11, 2008 at 4:30 in the afternoon.

Silver Sacerdotal Anniversary of Father President (October 22)

In joyful celebration of the gift of life of Fr. Francisco T. Estepa, SVD, a Holy Mass was held a day after his 25th Sacerdotal Anniversary. Seven of Father President’s ordination batchmates were present and officiated the Eucharist. It was a double celebration since Fr. Estepa also celebrated his 53rd birthday last October 4. Father President himself was the main celebrant while Fr. Ed Fugoso gave a heartwarming homily. HNU Deans and Heads of Offices and friends of the jubilarians attended the celebration. Soon after was the Blessing of El Patio de San Gabriel where the fellowship and program were held.

Rosary Month Culmination (October 27, 29 & 30)

The Catechetical Organization had its Living Rosary at the Bohol Crisis Intervention Center. As one of the Outreach beneficiaries, the BCIC wards were given Catechism of the Catholic Faith and taught to call the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary despite all the odds of life. It was held on October 27. On October 29, the Grade School had their culmination also with a Living Rosary at the school grounds with its pupils. The High School held a Culmination Mass at the Janssen Heights Gymnasium with their faculty, staff and students.

Selling of Raffle Tickets for the Elijah Retreat House

In response to the bishop’s call for support to the on-going project of the Diocese which is the Elijah Spirituality Center, tickets for its proceeds were sold to our faculty, staff and students. A total of P14,660.00 was collected to support the said endeavor.

Planting at the Janssen Hilltop Divine Word Centrum (September 13)

The Student Catholic Action had their outdoor activity at the new SVD Retreat House in Banat-i now named, Janssen Hill Top. They brought with them ornamental plants and planted them as hedges to add beauty to its surroundings.

on VOCATION-MISSION ANIMATION

SVD Mission Collection

Despite the economic crisis everyone faces, the HNU family showed its great love and support to the SVD Missionaries’ endeavor by generously sharing their financial assistance through the envelop system done every September. This year, around P75, 000.00 was collected for the mission.

CM Family Big Day (September 14)

One of the very remarkable affairs of the Campus Ministry Volunteers is the annual CM Big Day. Student volunteers from the three departments particularly, Grade School, High School and College were gathered. Teams were created, composed by the different year levels for the activities and games. The activity strengthened the bonding and camaraderie among the Campus Ministry staff members and student volunteers of the three departments and developed team building.

Vocation Week Celebration (September 19-28)

In coordination with the Diocesan activities, the staff took part in its celebration of the Vocation Week. Our CM volunteers acted as guides during the Vocation Campaign in the Campus. National Vocation Directors and Promoters visited the University for the room-to-room campaign. A Vocation Jamboree was held at the Assumption Shrine Grounds, Dauis on the eve of September 27. The CM Director was requested to share his Vocation Story at 12:00 midnight and the CM volunteers spearheaded by the Himig Diwa were also tasked to lead the Taize Prayer at 2:00 dawn.

7th Batch of AJS Reflection Seminar: Witness to the Word Module (Nov. 29-30)



As a banner program, the CM Office with the collaborative effort of the Council for Students and Personnel Services (CSPS) with the full support of the HNU Administration conducted the Arnold Janssen Spirituality Reflection Seminar integrating Witness to the Word module. The 7th Batch of participants were the New Faculty and Staff. It was held at the Janssen Hilltop Divine Word Centrum, Banat-I Hills, Tagbilaran City.

Advent Recollection and Birthday Fellowship

The BEC Freinademetz Community composed of the Non-Academic Staff of the institution held its annual Advent Recollection on December 6 at 8:00 in the morning. The new Vice President for Administration - Fr. Andres B. Guban, SVD gave the Advent reflection held at the University Chapel. It was followed by a simple fellowship in honor of the 4th Quarter Birthday celebrants. The University Chaplain, Fr. Ruel S. Gado, SVD celebrated the Holy Eucharist to culminate the twin celebrations.

St. Therese Cluster Holds Christmas Gathering /Reunion

The St. Therese of the Child Jesus Cluster also known as the JOY Circle held their Christmas gathering on December 6 at the Alumni Center. It will start with the Sacrament of Reconciliation to be officiated by Fr. Milo Mapaye, SVD at 2:00 in the afternoon. A Eucharistic Celebration will immediately follow with Fr. Lucas Wona, SVD as the main celebrant.
