The High School Department of Holy Name University successfully celebrated "St. Arnold Janssen's Feast" last Friday, January 15, 2010. Bearing this year's theme "A Heart of Gratitude: A Mirror of Attitude," the feast commenced with a Holy Mass held at the High School Gym, celebrated by Fr. Francisco T. Estepa, SVD with other SVD priests here at HNU.
After the Holy Mass, a program was held. The invocation was made by a senior student, Jolly April Vertulfo. The welcome address was given by Mrs. Gladys Flora I. Floreta, Assistant Principal of Day High School. And the Inspirational Message was given by Fr. Francisco Estepa, SVD, the Unversity President. In the program, the members of the Federated Parents and Teachers Association (FPTA) and selected fourth year students performed their intermission numbers.
There was a downpour throughout the activity, but this did not dampen everyone's spirit. The faculty, staff, students, and guests managed to keep themselves dry, although they were not anymore able to occupy their respective booths during lunch time.
At 1:30 P.M., the program continued at the HNU Oval. The highlights were the Best Decorated Booth contest and the year-level field demonstration which was sponsored by the MAPEH Department. Despite the "bad" weather, the students were able to perform their presentations well.
The announcement of winners was done by the High School Principal, Dr. Remedios U. Cardino, and Night High School Assistant Principal, Dr. Asuncion Pabalan. The Fourth Year students were declared the winners for the Best Field Demonstration. As for the Best Decorated Booth, the sections which won are as follows: IV-Blsd. Estanislaus Kubista, III-St. Vincent Ferrer, II-ST. Joseph the Worker, and I-St. John the Baptist.
The program ended at 3:30 P.M.
