Too early to say, but actually the tunes humming in my head while I was doing this task of introduction are: "welcome to the family," (an appropriate one considering he is a man of the cloth, and the one which the CAS family actually sung during the November 19th bienvenida for him) and "consider yourself at home," (as sung by Mark Dodger in the celebrated musicale-film, "Oliver!"). These are happy tunes, you can definitely say (certainly, an indication of how most of us, perceive/receive the latest addition to the CAS Family)! So to really make him better known (as one of us, yet leading us!) and indeed be welcome in the family, here is the new DEAN of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Yes, he is young, vibrant, and is basically visible is his office and the CAS faculty room is our new Dean, Fr. Ruel Flores Lero, SVD, who incidentally, is Visayan like us (as he comes from Dumaguete City where he obtained his basic education), but has Chavacano, Bicolano, Ilonggo and Chinese roots. Right after high school, his adventurous spirit took him to Luzon, particularly to Los Banos, at the University of the Philippines where he earned his BA degree in Communication major in Speech Communication and minor in Creative Writing, and recently his certificate in Ph.D candidacy, with major in Extension Education and minor in Development Communication. Truly, he is an UPLB-ian, through and through; thus he calls UP-LB, his home sweet home!
Though he had a teaching job right after graduation at UP-LB handling Speech Communication classes, in Filipino and English, a higher level of invitation made him leave this stint. He pursued priesthood; he entered Christ the King Seminary and studied Philosophy as an Associate (being one of late vocation). He did his postulancy in Tagaytay and his novitiate in Calapan, Mindoro. Then, he did his four-year Ecclesiastical Theology (magna cum laude) at Divine Word Mission Seminary, a baccalaureate in Sacred Theology granted by Pontificia Universita Urbaniana, in Rome (magna cum laude), and MA in Theology major in Pastoral Ministry (summa cum laude). On June 4, 2000, he professed his religious vows with Societas Verbi Divini (SVD) and was ordained a priest on March 5, 2005.
While he served as Assistant Director of the Campus Ministry in the High School Department of Holy Name University in 2005-2006, he is definitely back to Bohol SVD family, this time as the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
