Once again, Holy Name University of Tagbilaran City proves the claim of being a PAASCU-Accredited School as Joseph Victor Baquial, a senior student, qualifies for the 12th Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO) this school year. The competition was held last October 24, 2009 at UP Campus, Lahug, Cebu City. Baquial took the Visayas Area Stage Competition on November 21, 2009 which will be held at the same testing place.
The PMO is the oldest nationwide Mathematics competition involving highschool students. It aims to stir the improvement of Mathematics education in the country by awakening greater interest in, and appreciation of, mathematics among students and teachers and gaining insights into the levels of Mathematical being. Further, it is open to all high school students both from public and private schools nationwide.
Joseph Baquial is the only student from the province of Bohol who qualifies for Visayan Area Stage. Dr. Marlon S. Jala, a mathematics educator was the coach of the said contestant.
The contestant and the coach were expressing the profound gratitude to the school administrators headed by the high school principal, Dr. Remedios U. Cardino, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Fr. Teodoro P. Gapuz, SVD and the parents of the contestant, Mr. and Mrs. Erwin O. Baquial for the full support of this competition.
