The Grade 5 Family had the privilege to visit the Bohol Bee Farm which is located in a limestone cliff in Barangay Dao, Dauis last September 10, 2009. The farm advocates pro-environment activities like organic farming, organic composting and handicrafts making. The pupils were toured around the lush gardens which show off various herbs and vegetables. They were surprised to learn that some fresh flowers such as orchid petals and bougainvilleas can be served as salads!
Then, they were given a lecture about the bee colony and how these interesting insects produce honey. One of the guides showed them an actual colony and demonstrated how puffed smoke can "soothe" or calm them down. Afterwards, all were welcomed into their dainty souvenir shop which sells their produce ranging from jams, jellies, fresh breads, woven products like bags, mats, and of course… the purest honey.
Most of the pupils enjoyed their honey-glazed ice cream and all agreed that they have learned a lot from the eventful morning visit.
