Aspiring pupil writers attended the Basic Journalism Seminar Workshop slated last September 16, 2009. It was held at the Multi-Media Center with Mrs. Michele Rellita, M.A. (Ravine school paper adviser) as the main facilitator. Topics covered were Journalism: Then and Now; News Writing; Tips for News Reporters; Feature Writing; Editorial Writing; Editorial Cartooning; and Copyreading.
After each topic has been presented and discussed, participants were given a workshop to put their writing ability to the test; some were done individually, some by small groups. To break the ice, unfreezers were given now and then, much to the delight of everyone. Afterwards, pupils were made to understand that their outputs will help determine who among the aspirants will become staffers of the Ravine school paper.
The whole day seminar-workshop was attended by 14 Grade 4 pupils, 15 Grade 5 pupils and 15 Grade 6 pupils. From among these 24 aspirants, only 12 were chosen to comprise the Ravine staff for this school year.
