Young athletes from all over Tagbilaran converged to represent their respective schools in the Tagbilaran City Olympics last October 1-3 of this year. On the first day, participants gathered at the plaza across St. Joseph's Cathedral then paraded on the city streets towards CPG Sports Complex. There, some local officials, DepEd representatives and heads of schools joined the different athletic groups from both public and private schools.
The Grade School Department sent 94 pupil-athletes. The following are the various events they participated in with their corresponding coaches: basketball ( Mr. Marcial Golosino ), chess ( Mrs. Salvacion Juego ), badminton ( Mr. Rex Celosia ), softball ( Mrs. Sheila Alturas ), taekwando ( Mr. Sullivan Grandeza ), and volleyball ( girls-Mrs. Lisa Auxtero; boys-Mrs. Claribel Sumampong ).
The winning athletes are qualified to represent the city and join the CVRAA which will be held in Danao, Cebu on March 2010. The HNU Grade School basketball team proudly brought home the bacon as gold medalists. The softball team will also represent the school, together with the winners in chess and taekwando. Other pupils ended up as silver and bronze medalists. HNU Grade School came in second in the overall ranking and brought home a trophy.
