FIRST HNU PRESIDENT IS TOBAW AWARDEE IN EDUCATION

The tangible efforts of then DWC-T President, Fr. Florante Sanchez Camacho, SVD- had brought to fruition his long-sought dream to upgrade the College into her University status. Thus, in November of 2001- what was then Holy Name College in 1947 and later, Divine Word College of Tagbilaran in 1964 became the HOLY NAME UNIVERSITY, the premiere and only Catholic University in the province.

Hence, it comes to no surprise for everyone when Bohol's own native son of the Sanchez-Camacho clan of Sagbayan and Clarin was nominated and earned the distinguished title of being the 2018 TOBAW Awardee in Education- Fr. Florante S. Camacho, SVD, who is also HNU's first University president. Delivering his keynote speech in his installation as University President in a grand investiture at the Saint Joseph Cathedral of Tagbilaran in 2001, Fr. Camacho focused on how gratitude is and starts from the heart. In that momentous speech, he thanked his parents, who happened to be one of the pioneering couples and faculty members who joined Holy Name College and together with the founder, the late Fr. Alphonse Lesage, SVD – planted the seed of catholic education in Bohol. Fr. Florie, himself, is a product and one of HNU's prestigious alumnus, having graduated his elementary years from Holy Name College.

The Search and Selection of TOBAW Awardees in varied fields of endeavour is a prestigious event for identifying Who's Who will qualify to be one of the Ten Outstanding Boholanos Around the World Award is one of the major activities of TBTK, a gathering of Boholanos from around the country and the globe. Tigum Bol-anon Tibuok Kalibutan or TBTK is celebrated every three years and is officially linked with the annual event or Sandugo Festival celebrated every July.
