HNU-CCS Studes participate in 1st Y4IT Cebu
Some 25 senior CS and IT students participated in the two-day Youth for Information Technology (Y4IT) Cebu Congress held last November 22-23, 2012 at the SM City Cebu Trade Hall. It was the first time that the University of the Philippines IT Development Center (UPITDC), who is the sponsor for such event, brought to the Visayas and Mindanao areas this type of gathering, which they had been doing for the past ten years in UP Diliman.
Different resource speakers delivered talks, which range from IT education-related issues to technopreneurship. Highlights include the keynote address of Sen. Aquilino Pimentel III, which emphasized on the role of IT in the development of the country. Mr. Jerry Rapes, the CEO of ExistGlobal focused on how IT graduates should prepare themselves to be successful in their field while other IT enthusiasts promoted technopreneurship as an alternative means of earning money after graduation. The need to be certified was also highlighted by the Cebu Educational Development Foundation for IT.
The congress was participated by around a thousand CS/IT/Engineering students from the Visayas and Mindanao schools and universities and UPITDC hopes to replicate this in the succeeding years.
