To enhance the competence of the faculty in test construction, the College of Education conducted a one-day Seminar-Workshop on Test Construction on June 26, 2010 at the PAASCU Conference Room. Ms. Jaremilleta Arawiran, a faculty of the same college, discussed "The Role of Assessment in Instruction and Constructing Table of Specifications." Dr. Roque A. Bongcac, the Dean, lectured on "Formulating Objectives and Test Items."
To make the Dean's input highly contextualized, he presented a sample of the faculty-crafted test items that need more improvement. The presentation also served as a good justification on why a seminar-workshop of such kind had to be conducted.
After the speakers' input, the workshop on formulating objectives and test construction followed. The faculty worked in groups and presented their output for scrutiny and review. After the output presentations of each group, the Dean and faculty participants identified the strengths and weaknesses of each test item and suggested ways of improving the items.
The evaluation of the seminar-workshop revealed excellent ratings on how it was conducted. The faculty opined that they learned so much from the activity and that they realized the test they used to administer need improvement.
Aside from the COED family, two faculty members of the College of Arts and Sciences also attended the seminar-workshop.
