GS CULMINATES NUTRITION MONTH CELEB
The annual nutrition month celebration kicked off last July 8, 2009 when it was officially launched after a Eucharistic celebration. This year's theme is "Wastong Nutrisyon Kailangan, Lifestyle Diseases Iwasan". Though the said theme was adopted, every class bulletin board bannered "The Word nourishes us" to reflect the school's slogan, "Witness to the Word".
A series of symposia focusing on proper nutrition were given to the Grades 4, 5 and 6 pupils. These were held on July 15, 16 and 17 at the Instructional Media Center. Guest speakers were Mrs. Ingrid Tubio and Mrs. Karen Aranzado, both registered nurses and clinical instructors, as well as Mrs. Maria Pureza Enriquez, a medical technologist.
On July 24, a delightful cooking contest was held at the GS H.E. laboratory. The contenders were: Micah Sophia Deloy and her grandfather, Mr. Roberto Deloy ( Grade 4 representatives ), Jon Jea Amparo and her mother, Mrs. Jennifer Amparo ( Grade 5 representatives ), Kheim Dexter Garay and his older brother, Ian Evan Garay ( Grade 6 representatives ). They were made to prepare an easy-to-prepare, delicious and nutritious meal with a budget of only P100 pesos.
The month-long activity finally culminated last July 30, 2009 at 3:30 in the afternoon at the Janssen Heights Gym. The main highlights were the two sets of competitions: the "Advertisement on Good Nutrition" and the "Musikusinahan". Parents performed on stage, much to the delight of everyone, and pupils were creative with their presentations. The Grade 1 representatives were Jhuvelene Mae Dalit and her mother, Mrs. Evangeline Dalit; Grade 2 representatives were John Benedict Cañete and his parents, Mr. Eric & Mrs. Antoinette Cañete; and the Grade 3 representatives were Philip Gerard Licayan and his mother, Mrs. Geraldine Licayan. Pupil representatives from grades 4, 5 and 6 participated in the "Musikusinahan". After a few intermission numbers, the awarding of prizes followed.
