Dr. Guadalupe G. Saturinas, Dean of the College of Education, attended a two-day seminar-workshop on Research-Based Teaching Strategies held on October 2-3 at the Southwestern University. The seminar was conducted for more effective implementation of the new courses or subjects in the teacher education curriculum.
The President of the Southwestern Univesity, Dr. Eldigario Gonzales was the guest speaker who underscored the importance of integrating research in classroom instruction.
In the workshop, the participants were assigned to clusters with specific teaching strategies for a particular subject to discuss. Dr. Saturinas was assigned in the group that tackled strategies for teaching the Social Dimensions of Learning, one of the courses in the new teacher education curriculum. The KWL method was introduced. The acronym stands for Knowing What to Learn, a method which is considered useful in developing metacognition. Dr. Judith Dabon, the Dean of the College of Education of St. Theresa’s College served as the group’s facilitator.
