GIS Training held

HNU, through the College of Computer Science, recently hosted a one-day training on the Fundamentals of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). It was held last January 17, 2009 at the Computer Laboratory of the Main Building and was participated by 23 IT faculty members from seven different schools in Bohol.

The training was conducted by Mr. Jerry Hervacio Salvador, a faculty member of the Computer Science Department of the University of the Philippines – Visayas, Cebu City. The morning session was a lecture on the basic principles of GIS, while in the afternoon the participants were exposed to a GIS software, IDRISI from Clarklabs.

The activity was co-sponsored by the Philippine Society of IT Educators – Region 7.

The College of Computer Science will be offering the GIS subject as an elective course in their new IT program.
