12TH PSITE NATIONAL CONVENTION HELD, HNU-COCS IS LOCAL PARTNER

Holy Name University, through the Dean of the College of Computer Science, Mrs. Amie Rosarie Caballo, was recognized by the National Board of the Philippine Society of IT Educators, as its partner school in the preparation for the 12th PSITE National Convention. The nationwide gathering of IT educators was held last February 24-27, 2010 at the Bohol Plaza Resort and Restaurant.


HNU-COCS faculty members Ms. Eva Marie Budiongan, Mr. Genes Molina, and Ms. Amie Rosarie Caballo, COCS Dean at the 12th PSITE National Covention.

Mrs. Caballo, together with two of her faculty members, Ms. Eva Marie Budiongan and Mr. Genes Molina, participated in the event and at the same time served as members of the Secretariat together with the rest of the officers of PSITE-Region 7.

A soft opening was held in the evening of February 24, 2010, with a talk from Intel, coupled with dance performances of HNU's Diwanag Dance Theatre and Cultural Troupe. The event formally opened in the morning of February 25, 2010 with our very own Himig Diwa rendering an invocation, the Lupang Hinirang and Awit sa Bohol. The event was graced by the presence of Atty. Handel Lagunay, the Bohol Provincial Administrator, giving the Welcome Remarks in behalf of Governor Erico Aumentado, while the keynote message was given by Mr. Carlo Subido, the Business Development Manager of Intel Philippines.

There were plenary sessions on topics such as Flattening the IT Education Sphere, Addressing ICT Education Gap Through Partnership and Service Science, Management and Engineering (SSME). There was also a presentation on Educating Voters: An ICT Challenge and on the ITE Undergraduate Thesis Project Framework. In between these talks were presentations from the different sponsors of the event.


Ms. Amie Rosarie Caballo, COCS Dean together with Ms. Chuchi Montenegro from Silliman University, and Mr. Naveen Asrani, the Developers Manager of Sun Microsystems, Asia-Pacific during the JEDI Night at Flushing Meadows.

The most awaited event was the JEDI (Java Education and Development Initiative) Night, which took place at Flushing Meadows in the evening of February 26, 2010. It has been a yearly activity during national conventions that Sun Microsystems regularly sponsors in one of the evenings of the activity. Awards were given to JEDI supporters and a JEDI Champion.

The convention was culminated by a tour on February 27, 2010 starting from a Loboc Cruise while taking lunch to Chocolate Hills and the other tourist spots in Bohol.

To date, this convention is the most widely attended so far.
