The College of Computer Science held its Second Academic Contests last January 23, 2010 at the CS Main laboratory. These academic contests are aimed at awarding students who are exceptional in the fields of programming, web design, and graphics design.
The Junior and Senior Programmer of the Year categories both made use of the C language in the writing of the program codes. Mr. Alekhine Joshua Bancod was hailed as the Junior Programmer of the Year and was awarded with P500.00 cash and a Plaque of Recognition. Mr. Juliver Carlo Arawiran earned the Senior Programmer of the Year award and gained a prize of P1000.00 and a Plaque of Recognition. The faculty members who took care of the whole contest were Mrs. Maria Isabel R. Abucejo, Mr. Jay B. Paig as members and Ms. Mariejoe F. Narca as chairperson.
This year's theme for the Junior and Senior Graphic Designer of the Year was "ICT at Work: Connecting People in Building a Brighter Future." Though sharing the same theme, the contestants in each of the category used different applications in designing the graphics. The juniors used MS Paint while the seniors, Adobe Photoshop. Ms. Ana Marie Chloe Becera won the Junior Graphic Designer of the Year title and received a Plaque of Recognition plus a P500.00 cash prize. The Senior Graphic Designer of the Year was awarded to Mr. Jonathan Nacorda. He received P1000.00 cash and a Plaque of Recognition. The group was managed by Mrs. Maria Celia Z. Ligason and Mrs. Eva Marie F. Budiongan as members and Mr. Brian C. Rosal as the chairman.
Three faculty members namely, Mrs. Edgelyn T. Nasayao, Mr. Genes C. Molina, and the Chairperson, Ms. Mitzi S. Fortich, prepared and accomplished the details for the Wed Designer of the Year category. Only consolation prizes were given to Ms. Mary Ann Caliao for the Junior Web Designer of the Year and Mr. John Erzon Tan for the Senior Web Designer of the Year since no one was able to realize the specifications of the systems. The former received a USB 2GB Flash drive sponsored by ASC Tech while the latter received a P300.00 cash prize. Both of them were given Plaques of Recognition.
The winners were recognized by the dean, Mrs. Amie Rosarie C. Caballo, when the said college celebrated its Big Day last February 6, 2010. All the other contestants each received a Plaque of Recognition. The prizes were solicited from the alumni of the said college, its faculty members, and some sponsors.
