Three faculty members of the College of Engineering were tapped by the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) to conduct a training on Basic Computer Literacy/Digital Literacy last October 26-28, 2009 at the Computer-Aided Design Laboratory in the Bates Building of Holy Name University's Janssen Heights Campus. The training is part of the Smart Schools Program of Smart Communications which promotes the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in education.
Engr. Ian Elle Samonte, Engr. Joseph Petalcorin, and Engr. Reynaldo Agunod conducted the three-day training which covered topics on Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Thirty high-school teachers from Tagbilaran City, Manga, Loboc, and Jagna participated in the three-day training sponsored by Smart Communications.
Engr. Samonte and Engr. Petalcorin are both Civil Engineers who took part in the training as part of the community extension activities of the Civil Engineering Department. Both shared their knowledge on how to effectively use Microsoft Powerpoint and Excel, respectively, to enhance the skills of the participants concerning the said applications.
The training was a learning experience to the teachers, especially to those who have minimal knowledge on the use of the said applications.
