Tradition of Excellence

When Fr. Alphonse Lesage, SVD founded Holy Name College, his goal was not just to provide learning, but higher learning based on lofty Catholic Christian principles. In his speech to the school's first graduates in 1948, he remarks:

You are now grounded in a Catholic philosophy. Your psychology has a soul; your science has a Creator You have learned true history; you are men and women really grounded in the love and knowledge of your faith. (Charles Scanlon, One Man's Movement in The Light, 1957, p. 120)

In the earliest years of the college's existence then, the drive for excellence was predominantly religious in nature. A short time after her inception, though, the school started expanding this drive into other fields, viz.: academic, literary-cultural, and also structural. (John Titus J. Vistal, Carving The Tradition of Excellence in JUBILATION)

Holy Name University's training for excellence, indeed, was manifested early. Excellence has become a tradition.
